Accused double room murder quickly suspected by own injuries

The police of zone Vlas (Kortrijk, Kuurne, Lendelede, ed.) were called on October 1, 2018 around 3:30 am for a stabbing in the Toekomststraat in Kortrijk. A young man is said to have been hit in the hand by a friend.

Traces of blood

“We saw a man lying across the sidewalk, with his head on the first step. His eyes were half open, but we didn’t get an answer,” says inspector Ruben Vandecasteele.

There was no question of blood or a knife on the street, but traces of blood were found in the studio of the accused. For example, the police discovered a bloody pillow and a bloody note of 50 euros.

Cleaning ladies

Just after 7 o’clock two cleaning ladies arrived in Vlaskot. “We walk in and the first thing we see is a red liquid on the handle of the glass door. My first suspicion was tomato sauce,” said one of the witnesses.

Her mother Bianca J. then noticed a foot near the elevator, but did not immediately realize how serious the situation was. “For the same money it was someone who was sleeping, but then we saw that something was not right.” The witness tried in vain to resuscitate the victim after her daughter had notified the emergency services.

Both witnesses noticed that the victim Nessar Jamshidi (18) was dressed in summer. One of his flip-flops was halfway down the hallway. “There was also a cigarette with him. You could see that he had been surprised by the way he actually lay.”

“Knife to the Heart”

“We immediately get the story from the emergency doctor that it is about a serious crime. People even speak of a violent death due to a knife stab in the heart region,” says Chief Inspector Johan Toye.

Police found traces of blood on the sidewalk and door handles. “That indicated that the perpetrator left from the inside and was bleeding profusely. That is why we immediately made the link with the suspect who was found in the Toekomststraat.”

Another female victim

Mohammad Taqi Musawi was still in hospital for treatment at the time, but was promptly arrested. Meanwhile, an initial examination of CCTV footage had also shown that he had passed the police station at around 3:15 am. At that moment, the accused wrapped his bleeding right hand in a sweater.

Finally, inspector Bart Vandamme also questioned a few possible witnesses in the student building. One girl remembered a man’s scream at around 3am, followed shortly afterwards by a long woman’s scream. At that time, the investigators did not know at all that there was a female victim.

It was not until around 9:45 am that the detectives realized that another studio had not yet been investigated. “We knocked, but we didn’t get an answer. Then we also noticed traces of blood at the level of the handle and just below it,” says inspector Kenneth Deroo.

With the help of another student, the police found the key to the studio on a set of keys in the kitchen. “In this way we found the victim Soboleva Youlia at 10.08 am. Due to the large pool of blood, it was quickly clear to us that she had died.”

On Monday afternoon, the drop-off team will speak.
