Accurate Young Ajax captain Gooijer immediately thought of Godts: “Health comes first”

He has never scored in professional football, but tonight he suddenly scored a double goal. Partly thanks to two goals from Jong Ajax captain Tristan Gooijer, the Amsterdam team came back spectacularly from a 3-1 deficit in the final phase. “Still happy with a point.”

A blemish on Jong Ajax’s comeback was the injury of Mika Godts. Gooijer was close by when the Belgian talent went to ground. “After the match I immediately thought of him. He is an important player for us. Everyone’s health is our number one priority. So something like that stays in your mind,” said Gooijer. Godts was eventually carried off the field on a stretcher. Afterwards it was confirmed that it would be a hamstring injury.

“Offensive heading is not my specialty”

More positive for Gooijer were his two goals. His first goal came from a corner and the second was a tap-in after a pinpoint cross from Raphaël Sarfo. “Attacking heading is not my specialty. Fortunately, I hit it very well now,” Gooijer says about his first goal. “For the second goal I was put in the striker. And when Raphaël has the ball, you know you have to run, because he has a fantastic cross.”

Young Ajax coach Dave Vos: “The only positive thing was the resilience” – NH Sport

Despite the spectacular comeback, Young Ajax coach Dave Vos was quite critical of his team. “3-3 is a result that was not really possible. This was one of our worst games. It was insufficient both defensively and offensively. The only positive today was the resilience,” said Vos.

Ajax’s next match is on Monday, December 11. Then Vos’ team will play against Jong FC Utrecht at Sportpark De Toekomst.
