Sometimes you end up in places that you wonder what you have to look for abroad. For example, we ended up in the Spanish Feestoord Salou (south of Barceolona) and we did not know how quickly we had to accelerate again. On to the cozy village of Cambrils where you end up in a completely different world. Six kilometers away you will find peace, charm, a fishing port, a beautiful historic center and … a beautiful B&B.

Imposing facade

Sleepaway is located in a restored city building with an impressive historic stone facade. Owners Marloes and Edwin are not present, but their host is waiting for us to point out that we can park the car opposite the house in the Dutch garage. What we already knew because we had received an extensive information document in advance via WhatsApp.

Once an antiquarian lived in the building that has left its mark. In the winter months you diaper around an antique fireplace and you would like to take the beautiful, old doors home in no time. This atmospheric palace that you rent as a whole has a modern kitchen, spacious bathrooms and is full of antiques and flea market. Thanks to the terracotta floors and wooden beams in particular, the house feels like a warm blanket. It is that it is high summer and the Spanish heat drives us to the beach.

Everything within walking distance

That’s nice about Cambrils, the village is nice and compact. The Casa is within walking distance of tapas bars, beach, shops and the harbor. Also nice: we received countless tips from the hostess about local eating addresses, the supply moments of fresh fish in the harbor, the best wine bar and the finest beach tents.

A downside? Maybe this gives you choice stress when, like us, you will take a lightning visit to Cambrils. But such a lightning visit is not recommended anyway, we now know. It is precisely these kinds of places that you will be relaxed, extensively lunching on the village square and immerse you in local Spanish life.

One thing is certain: we’ll be back!
