Around 6 p.m. on Wednesday evening, an accident first occurred near Torhout, in the direction of Bruges. That accident only caused damage to the bodywork, but it caused a traffic jam. In that traffic jam, two cars again ended up in a rear-end collision in a second accident.
A woman was seriously injured in that accident. She was taken to hospital, but her injuries are not life-threatening. The fire brigade had to free her from the wreckage. The road was not cleared until half past seven. The accident caused a heavy evening rush hour and a waiting time of thirty minutes or more.
