AC Milan wins to say goodbye to Ibrahimovic

To say goodbye to soccer superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic, AC Milan won its last game of the season in the Italian Serie A. The 41-year-old Swede, celebrated by the fans, watched as a spectator a 3-1 (1-0) home win for Milan against Hellas Verona.

Olivier Giroud (45 + 2) had given Milan the lead. After the interim equalizer by Davide Faraoni (72′), Rafael Leao (85’/90’+2′) secured the win with a brace and was applauded by Ibrahimovic. Behind champions SSC Napoli, Lazio Rome and Inter Milan, AC Milan took fourth place in the final table and plays in the Champions League.

Due to various injuries, Ibrahimovic has only appeared in four league games this season, including three as a substitute, and scored just one goal. After a long absence due to a knee operation last year, the veteran struggled first with a thigh injury and most recently with a calf injury.

Nevertheless, the Swede was celebrated by the Milan fans when he said goodbye. Before the game, they showed a choreography with the words “Godbye” – a wordplay on Goodbye. In addition, the 41-year-old was received with “Ibrahimovic, Ibrahimovic” chants. The cult player reacted visibly moved and thanked the fans by making a heart with his hands in their direction.

It is unclear whether and where Ibrahimovic will continue his career. According to Italian media reports, first division club AC Monza are said to be interested in the Swede.
