During the closure, the A9 will remain open from ramp 5 Stadshart towards Badhoevedorp. From Amstelveen you can get on the highway there. Motorists can take a detour via the A2, A4 and A10. Rijkswaterstaat expects a delay of 10 to 30 minutes for them. The stretch of highway will close at 8 p.m. on Friday and reopen at 5 a.m. on Monday.
Environmental manager of the project Lammer Postma explains what exactly will happen this weekend: “The southern carriageway will be moved in various places to make room so that various viaducts can be completed.”
In concrete terms, this means that contractor VeenIx mills (removes) 5,500 tons of asphalt and applies 4,000 cubic meters of sand and 3,000 tons of rubble. Once the asphalt has been laid, another 700 meters of guardrail will be installed.
Stretch of highway will be closed more often in the near future
This is not the last weekend closure of the route for the time being. The section of the highway between the Holendrecht junction and exit 5 Amstelveen-Stadshart will close on Friday, October 31. The A9 is open from ramp 5 in the direction of Schiphol.
On the night of Saturday, November 1 (11:00 PM) to Sunday, November 2 (7:00 AM), the A9 will be closed from the Holendrecht junction to the Badhoevedorp junction. Also in the month of November closures are planned.
Project delayed
Ultimately responsible for Rijkswaterstaat recently announced that the mega project that started in 2020 is being delayed. The work will not be completed in 2027, but may not be completed until 2029. Rijkswaterstaat will provide a more precise forecast next month.
