A Whiter Shade of Pale writer Keith Reid dies at 76 | show

Songwriter Keith Reid, one of the founders of Procol Harum, has died at the age of 76. The British band reports that the writer died of cancer in hospital in London on March 23.

Reid founded Procol Harum in 1967 with, among others, singer Gary Brooker, who passed away last year. Although Reid was an official member of the band, he was only active as the group’s songwriter. He wrote almost all songs of Procol Harum. So also A Whiter Shade of Palethe band’s biggest hit.

Reid also wrote sporadically for other artists. That’s how he contributed to the hit You’re the Voice by John Farnham from 1986.
