Today, December 29, it will be five years since the death of musician and guitarist Alexi Laiho. Laiho, known for the band Children of Bodom, was 41 years old when he died.

The friends had a long history together. This is how Jussi 69 described his friend to Iltalehti a few days after Laiho’s death.
– Alexi was the most determined, unyielding and persistent person I have ever met, he recalled.

– We have been known since the 90s. It created an immediate connection, which deepened later to the point that I would call him my best friend, Jussi 69 said at the time.
Later, Jussi 69 told Iltalehti how losing Laiho was one of the hardest things in his life.
– It was really brutal. Aleksi was in my dreams or thoughts almost every night, which was not very nice at first. But now it’s changed to the point where I remember all the cool stuff we did.
– He was the one I called if I was in a bad place. And the same the other way around. We could trust that the other would help, and that things would stay between the two of us, Jussi69 described the two’s friendship.
Before his death, Laiho suffered from serious substance abuse problems. His cause of death was fatty degeneration of the liver and connective tissue of the pancreas caused by alcohol.
