A son named Erasmus: the plot of the movie

Pietro (Ricky Memphis), Enrico (Daniele Liotti)Ascanio (Luca Bizzarri) and Jacopo (Paolo Kessisoglu) are the classics friends in their forties who – after a youth spent together – they have lost sight of each other a little. Very different in character and professions, the four suddenly find themselves in Lisbon for Amalia’s funeralthe woman who all four loved during their Erasmus in Portugal.

However, a not indifferent detail emerges: Amalia has a son in his early twenties who is called Erasmus. The suspicion that one of them is the father pushes them to look for the boy to submit her to DNA test.

Like this – from Lisbon to Figueira, passing through Foz and Cabo Espichel – embark on an exciting and daring journey together with a young woman (Filipa Pinto) who offers to help them. On the way they meet a former photography teacher of Jacopo – Alexandra (Carol Alt) – that makes everyone lose their minds.

A comedy that is too obvious

Halfway between Hangover with Bradley Cooper and the cult (on shared authorship) Oh mama!, A son named Erasmus revisits the vein of classic road movie. Preserving stylistic features typical of the genre – the voiceoverthe travel theme, the pristine scenery – but mixing them with the tradition of Italian comedy.

Similar to a movie of Gabriele Salvatoresthe film is based above all on the splendid landscapes and on the performance of the four protagonists. A group in full harmony, well-assorted and fun.

Among them, the (finally) mature proof of Luca Bizzarri – today voice actor of Volodymyr Zelesnky in the series Servant of the people – which finds an ideal balance between comedy and drama thanks to a multifaceted character full of contradictions. In contrast to the colleague Paolo Kessisogl, who does not appear exactly at ease in the cinema dimension.

However, this does not save the film from numerous problemsstarting from some rather obvious narrative turns and a final “twist” that can be guessed right from the very first scenes. The result is a pleasant, as well as phoned, apologue on the meaning of friendship and of sense of fatherhood. A chapter that adds little to the repertoire of Italian comedies of recent years.

The return of Carol Alt

In over forty years of career between cinema and catwalks, Carol Alt has been one of the symbols of the 80s.
