Banana Republic closes European online shop

Banana Republic will be shutting down its Europe and UK websites effective May 31st.

According to both websites, customers can “shop as usual” until the end of 11:59 p.m. that day. The brand, which has belonged to Gap Inc. since 1983, will continue to be represented with its own online shop via the joint platform of the US clothing group, on which the Gap, Old Navy and Athleta brands are also integrated.

In October 2016, the brand began closing its physical stores in the UK. The brand now has stores almost exclusively in the USA.

Expansion in Australia

As the brand slowly fades from the scene here, Banana Republic is expanding in Australia, the company said in March. For this, Banana Republic is working with retailer David Jones. The FW22 collection is available online and in stores there. Banana Republic also has its own online shop for the Australian market at bananarepublic.com.au.

“We are excited to grow Banana Republic’s business in Australia through our partnership model,” said Adrienne Gernand, Gap’s Managing Director of International, Global Licensing and Wholesale.
