A soaking wet spring, and yet a disaster plan is now being announced by wildfire. How is that possible?

The governor of Liège is putting the provincial emergency plan into effect because the fire in the High Fens cannot be brought under control. In the meantime, 170 hectares of nature reserve – equivalent to about 250 football fields – have gone up in flames. How is that possible after the wettest spring in years? Experts warn of even more wildfires, also in the provinces of Limburg and Antwerp.
