A man was seriously injured on Monday evening after his car left the road on Kerkeind in Sleeuwijk. He drove his car off a high dike and came to a stop at the bottom of the dike. His car overturned several times.

The victim was removed from the vehicle by the fire brigade. The dike is about ten meters high. Because the victim was at the bottom of the dike, the fire brigade had to hoist the victim up with a crane.

Once at the top of the dike, the victim was stabilized by ambulance personnel. A second ambulance also arrived at the scene of the accident to provide assistance. The man was rushed to hospital.

The car was severely damaged, virtually nothing is left of the front of the car. A recovery company will retrieve the vehicle and remove it.

Nothing is yet known about the cause of the accident. The police are investigating how the accident could have happened.
