The German record champion impresses at the start of the Champions League. T-online columnist Stefan Effenberg explains why. To do this, he protects a player of the record champion – and warns BVB.

There were changing appearances by the German teams for the Champions League start in the past week. But if you have shown us something, then that the clubs from the Bundesliga can more than keep up in a European comparison. We are not as bad as we sometimes classify ourselves-and I say now: It is not impossible that all four German teams make it into the knockout round.

FC Bayern has directly called out: 3: 1 against Chelsea FC, the reigning club world champion, of which many of them had a good respect in advance. But the people of Munich deservedly deservedly won with a dominant and convincing performance – that was simply impressive, a sign of Europe.

Chelsea was aggressively harmless, showed a completely different face than at the club World Cup in summer. That was very disappointing – but: Bayern also had a significant share in that. They simply didn’t offer anything to the Londoners and, with their offensive force, they always faced significant problems. The result could have been even higher. It was also strong how Bayern did not let themselves be disturbed in their game after the London team’s quick connection goal, but continued to ensure it as before.

A substitution at Bayern has meanwhile been discussed a lot: the recently sharply criticized Sacha Boey was allowed to play again by Bayern coach Vincent Kompany in the second half for the injured Josip Stanišić. And I say: Company does everything right. This is psychology. He shows Boey by trusting him that he continues to believe in him. This is how he gets his chances – even if it is so honest for him, you have to be so honest for the starting eleven at Bayern if everyone else is fit. Now he has played almost a complete half against Chelsea, finally not noticed negatively – he will do that good.
