A Qatari consortium made an official bid for Manchester United

The purchase price presented in the offer has not been disclosed to the public, but according to reports, it could reach up to six billion euros.

Qatar Islamic Bank Chairman Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Al Thani the consortium led by has submitted an official offer for the purchase of soccer giant Manchester United on Friday.

The price of the possible deals has not been officially announced, but according to reports quoted by AFP, the price tag could rise to record figures of up to six billion euros.

The Glazer family, who bought the club in 2005, announced in November that they were accepting offers to buy or invest in Manchester United. Since the announcement, the value of Manchester United’s shares has risen to 26 dollars a piece, which means a total value of about 4.1 billion euros.

Sky News analysis according to the Qataris, the value of the offer is around 4–5 billion euros. The Glazers bought the club at the beginning of the millennium with a contract worth about 900 million euros, so the American family would be clearing the substantial profits from the sale of the club even after the interest on the loans included in the deal.

– More information about the offer will be published if necessary, if and when the process progresses, Al Thani says in a statement.

The offer of a coalition of different organizations led by Al Thani includes a hundred percent takeover of the entire club.

– The purpose of the offer is to restore the club to its former glory both on and off the field, and above all it aims to put the fans back at the center of Manchester United.

If the deal goes through, Manchester United’s ownership will be transferred to the Nine Two Foundation consortium led by Al Thani.

Qatar Islamic Bank is one of the largest banks in Qatar, chaired by Al Thani. He has also previously sat on the board of the Swiss bank Credit Suisse.

Al Thani is the former crown prince of Qatar. However, he abdicated his position as crown prince in 2003, stating that he was not interested in a future as Emir of Qatar.
