The top promise of the Canadian U20 national team Matthew Schaefer17, hurt his left shoulder so badly against Latvia that the youngster’s games are over.
The defender was injured in the first period of the match when he lost his balance while chasing the puck and crashed into the goal post.
Schaefer, who represents the Erie Otters at the club team level, had time to collect 1+1 performances in Canada’s first two matches.
Schaefer is considered the most talented defender in his age group. He will probably be booked among the first four players in next summer’s draft.
