“A great success”: Infantino enthusiastic about the start of the World Cup

After the end of the first day of the preliminary round at the Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, FIFA President Gianni Infantino was delighted with the start of the tournament.

“I’m a happy man. There are hundreds of thousands of happy men, women, girls and boys who come to the games and millions upon millions who watch from home. So, a great success,” said Infantino in a statement from the world association. In it he also praised the warm welcome by the hosts.

According to FIFA, more than the targeted 1.5 million tickets have already been sold for the 64 games of the tournament, which was held for the first time with 32 teams. According to FIFA, a total of 459,547 visitors came to the stadiums in the 16 games of the first group stage, which ended in Colombia’s 2-0 win over South Korea on Tuesday. That was 28,721 per match and, according to the world association, 54 percent more than at the last World Cup in 2019 in France.
