The legend of the Finnish women’s national football team, Linda Sällström, 37, ended her national team career on Tuesday evening in Copenhagen.

Helmarie’s all-time goal stick came on the field in the 61st minute of the game, when Finland faced Denmark in the Nations League promotion qualifiers.

Denmark beat Finland 2–0 and advanced to the League A of the Nations League with a combined score of 8–1.

Sällström also ends his club team career this season. He represents the Swedish Vittsjö team.

Sällström spoke emotionally about his long career on Tuesday. He told the press conference how he has been able to follow the growth of women’s football in Finland.

– When I started, women’s football was only mentioned in a small corner of the magazine, he said.

– This is quite an emotional decision. I’ve been tossing this around in my mind for a while. Now suddenly it’s autumn and the last national team event.
