There was an exceptional data protection offense in Denmark in January. Frederiksberg municipality by accident accidentally a 13-year-old boy’s personal information for thousands of people.

Reported digi.no.

The privacy violation took place on January 23, when the municipality sent emails to 1,897 individuals and 439 companies. The emails included, among other things, payment requests, but two extra invoices from Herlev also accidentally included in the messages. The invoices included sensitive information for a 13-year-old boy, including the boy’s personal identification number and care information.

The municipality of Frederiksberg informed the country’s data protection authority the next day. The municipality also sent a message to the persons who received sensitive information, where the municipality urged those who received the message to remove the documents without reading them. The municipality suspects that the error is due to Fujitsu’s system error.

Director Johan’s bus considers the case serious. The center is part of the Danish National Ethics Center.

– Public authorities manage large amounts of personal and sensitive information. Residents must be able to trust that this information is processed safely and correctly. Such a large leak challenge this trust, Busse tells Digi.no.

Busse believes that the case raises questions about whether public authorities have sufficient security measures to prevent such leaks.

– Such cases emphasize the importance of continuous assessment and improvement in systems. There must be strong technical barriers to prevent confidential information from being sent to the wrong recipients.
