Selina Grotian finally pushed into the top of the world this season. Some already see a successor to Laura Dahlmeier in her. At the moment, the 20-year-old from Biathlon does not want to know anything.

Alexander Kohne reports from Oslo

After the last race and the exuberant joy of the overall World Cup victory of her teammate Franziska Preuß (more about this here you read here) Selina Grotian had something different in mind than biathlon: vacation.

After a successful but also exhausting season, the 20-year-old’s wish is all too understandable. “I’m glad to hear nothing about biathlon for the first time,” said Grotian after the last race of the season in Oslo T-Online-and laughed out.

The somewhat disappointing 21st place in the previous mass launch had already largely ticked off. Which would be understandable, because: Grotian finally made the leap into the top of the world in the season expired on Sunday.

This proves the World Cup final ranking, in which it is ninth. The only 20-year-old from SC Mittenwald is the second best German behind overall winner Franziska Preuss. After she had a teenager with the World Cup overall 29 and a relay bronze medal and fourth place in the individual race at the World Cup, Grotian has now fully established herself.

At the World Cup there was bronze again-this time with the mixed relay-and in the World Cup, Grotian won her first victory in an individual race in the mass start of Le Grand-Bornand. “I am very satisfied. Of course the last trimester could have gone a little better, but all in all I couldn’t have imagined that the season would be like that,” the Bavarian summed up the season.

At the last three World Cup stations, it was only enough for them with the season to a podium. However, three other top 10 results in the individual races are still extremely respectable. Together with the successes of the previous months, she therefore comes to an overall positive assessment: “A 2”, Grotian replies to the T-Online question, which school grade she would give the season-and then puts a laugh directly after: “Well, rather a 2+.”

After five titles at the 2023 Junior World Championship, Grotian was considered the greatest promise of the German biathlon future. Only two years later she has already redeemed this. Which does not make public expectations smaller.

Since her debut in the World Cup in March 2023, comparison with seven -time world champion and two -time Olympic champion Laura Dahlmeier have been drawn in public. This was also very successful at a young age.

Grotian do not seem to unsettle them. She also radiates a certain lightness in her second complete World Cup season and is authentic and quick-witted in interviews.

Germany’s biathlon idol Uschi Disl appealed two months ago in the T-Online interview: “You should try to put as little pressure as possible. Because this high expectations can become a problem.”

Grotian himself seems to see it in a similar way and makes sure not to screw up the expectations too. With regard to her goals for the coming season, in which the Olympic Games are also due, she revealed: “First of all, I would like to come to the Olympics and then look.”

Instead of medal dreams, the Bavarian is initially concerned with at all in the process. She is now working towards that. First, however, the well -deserved vacation is pending – and exceptionally a month without biathlon.
