In Brabant we don’t get enough of carnival and parades. Exactly three weeks after carnival, another parade traveled through the streets, this time the half -fast procession in Oss. According to the organization ‘The Champions League of the parades’. “The numbers one, two and three from the region come to this parade.” All eyes are aimed at a huge caterpillar, that car can deliver a unique performance.

Carnival association Doe Mar Dur goes surfing through the streets of Oss, as if the summer carnival are. With a nice sun and seventeen degrees, the weather is great for a party on the street.

Taken over from Zeeland
For the surfing carnival club it is the fourth parade of the year and also the last. “It is enjoying, nice that we can still do a parade,” says a man in HawaïShirt. “After today the car can go into the shredder, then he can get on the scrap heap. I am completely done with it, but we will enjoy it for a while.”

Jeroen de Lang organizes the half -fast procession in Oss for the eleventh time. “This is really the Champions League of the parades. The numbers one, two and three from the region and far beyond come to Oss.” Years ago they took over the procession of Zeeland. “They quit that. But we thought that this was a shame here in Oss, we wanted to continue this tradition.”

And that is not without success: 46 clubs have saved their act or car for this parade. “Brabant loves carnival, we can’t get enough of parades.”

Demolition or not?
Yet not everyone waited for demolition. “Our own is already short, it has already been demolished. We are just coming to watch,” says a club from Berghem. They come to encourage three other carnival clubs from their village. “On Wednesday we always make the car short, then we can go back to the barn over the track. Four weeks of waiting could have been, but we are not like that.”

All eyes are aimed at ‘CV’ t Kumt well ‘from Overlangel. For the third year in a row they can win the half -fast procession and then they can keep the exchange box. “That is unique, that has never happened,” says Jeroen de Lang. With a huge green caterpillar they attract attention. “Our caterpillar never gets enough”, can be heard in the parade. “Cocon it is always carnival.”

Because of the speakers, a fairytale story sounds about a caterpillar that gets wings from carnival. Everywhere butterflies dance around the car. It became exciting for a while, the car was so high that it almost did not fit under the trees. “It is good to fit and measure here. But it is just going well. Otherwise it would be a shame for the rest of the parade,” says one of the members.

‘More beautiful than in Tilburg’
The members of PCS De Raauw Ossekar do not think about winning. They mainly want to honor car builder Harrie with their own car. Harrie will stop after fifty years.

“I have built cars for fifty years and this year I will be 77, 7 times 11, so I think it is nice. This is fun, so the last time. This is my farewell round and then stand by the side next year.”

A couple with orange-green scarves, from Tilburg, looks nice in the sun at the parade. “I like to celebrate carnival weeks after Carnival, my girlfriend had a hard time with it.” She mainly had trouble getting into the mood. “It’s special, it’s not my city. Hey. The cars here are more beautiful than in a jar, larger cars here.”
