Sitting behind the wheel, Bert Finke overlooks the surroundings of Dalerveen. In the distance we see Germany lying with the large windmills. But we also see a suburb of Coevorden: Pikveld.
With guide Bert Finke we go back to the wartime and so we end up with Wijnandus Meppelink, he was active in Dalerveen for the occupier during the Second World War.
But actually the area in which he and his men operated was much bigger. Finke: “Yes, Meppelink was a post commander about the Dalerveen-Stieltjeskanaal area. Dalerveen is not such a super big place, but Stieltjeskanaal is of course a very long channel. The area where he, say his troops, got his troops from, was really great.”
