A few weeks before the World Cup, June landed Arnekleiv and Vetle Sjåstad Christiansen by car in a ditch. The two biathletes were obviously very lucky.
The two Norwegian biathlon stars June Arnekleiv and Vetle Sjåstad Christiansen reported a terrible incident shortly before the biathlon World Cup last February. According to their own statements, the two came into a car accident, which ultimately ran lightly for them, but obviously left traces afterwards.
“I only noticed how bad it was when we were a little distance from it. It was a big shock,” Arnekleiv told the Norwegian medium of NRK. The accident had a very mentally polluted mentally afterwards. You could only sleep a little for three days. “I had nightmares during the first nights, even if I got away with a slightly stiff neck,” said the 26-year-old.
What happened? After a show race in Stockholm in Sweden, Arnekleiv and Christiansen were with another person in a rental car on the way to Otepää in Estonia. Both biathletes were passengers. Christiansen described the course of the accident: “It was extremely slippery and we drove straight at an intersection before we slipped into a ditch between the street and the sidewalk.” The car’s front section was smashed. The car could no longer continue.
Arnekleiv even described the car as “a total wreck”. She explained: “The gear was destroyed, and things were loose under the car and under the bonnet. In retrospect, I find it crazy that it went so well.” Christiansen also saw it that way. “I sat in front and slept halfly, but I managed to raise my legs. Fortunately, it went very well.”
According to Arnekleiv, it was a neighbor who, fortunately after the accident, offered the athletes his help. He then drove her to the hotel, said the biathlete.
At the final World Cup weekend in Oslo, Arnekleiv will start differently than Christiansen. Most recently, she had also participated in the European Championships and the IBU Cup. She had completed her last World Cup race in Oberdorf in January.
“I’m healthy and I’m fine,” she said now. With regard to the accident, she emphasized: “It was a shock, I had neck and headaches for a few days. I am very happy that everyone was fine.”
