Anna R. was born on Christmas Day 25, 1969 in Berlin as Andrea Rosenbaum. But she became known to many with her band Rosenstolz with an artist name. He gave up many puzzles, as fans could not decipher why the second N of all people is very important in their first name.
In an interview with the “Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung”, which she gave in 2013, the singer explained: “I just found that the big N looked cool.”
So no secret second name that is hinted at here – no poetic gimmick of an artist? It is much easier: In the beginning of her career, Anna R. had thought about how it could best work with autographs. After all, a relaxed hand is needed.

“In my youthful delusion I thought about having to give signatures at some point,” she recalled. Therefore, she experimented with different spellings and at some point came to the shortening of her name and the cecke Great N.
There are still funny interpretations on the net, as the musician opened. Among other things, Wikipedia had long read that the big n actually stood for the second first name Natalie. For Anna R. there is no reason to get upset, because she would not have had a second first name, as she explained in an interview with the newspaper at the time. “My mother and I had to laugh about it,” said the singer.
Finally, it was announced that the police hired their investigation – Anna R. is not autopsied either. However, it was confirmed that the musician suffered from several health problems, including myasthenia in autoimmune disease. It remains unclear whether this contributed to the cause of death.
Anna R. was found dead in her apartment in Berlin in March 2025. She was 55 years old.
