Former boxing legend George Foreman died on Friday at the age of 76. His family has announced that On Instagram. “Our hearts are broken,” they write in a statement. “He was a devoted preacher, a dedicated husband, a loving father and a proud great and great-grandfather and lived a life characterized by a steadfast belief, humility and goal-orientedness.”
Foreman is considered one of the very best boxers in history, with a career that started in the sixties and almost thirty years later. He won the world title heavyweight several times, but he himself considered his gold medal at the 1968 Olympic Games as the sporting highlight of his life.
During his career, Foreman boxed no fewer than 81 games, of which he only lost five. The only competition he lost on Knock-Out was the most iconic competition in his career. In 1974 he took on Muhammed Ali in Kinshasa, a match that is to the Rumble in the Jungle was baptized. Despite his favorite role, it was Ali who triumphed in the then Zaire.
After his boxing career, Foreman earned tens of millions with the George Foreman Grill, a grill machine of which more than 100 million devices have been sold worldwide since 1994. What Foreman died, it was not announced.
