Nice legs, a long tail and a bit stubborn. ‘Pieta 190’, nickname Pieta, is a real model and she is one of the ten finalists for the title of Best Boerenkoe 2025. The 14-year-old Lieve Zonnenberg from Herpen provides Pieta. “We want a hundred of these types of cows in our stable.”
Girls of 14 years old are usually concerned with makeup, tick dances and Netflix, but dear has a completely different hobby. She loves cows. She has been taking care of her favorite Pieta since the cow was born in 2017. She does that together with her parents who have a dairy farm.
Pieta is the only cow from the south of the country in the race for the Best Boerenkoe 2025 competition.
In the video below Lieve explains why Pieta is so special:
According to Lieve, Pieta is beautiful and she really has her own character. “It is a cow with a little more temperament, but that is why she is a very tired animal. She is somewhat self -guide and that really makes it a farmer’s cow for us.”
Lieve has nothing to criticize about the construction of Pieta. “She has a nice head when she puts her ears forward. Her legs are wide. You don’t want a cow to be like a ballerina.”
“It’s almost like she has glitter on her skin.”
“She is also not too fat and not too thin,” says Lieve, proudly standing next to Pieta. “And because of her color she really stands out in our stable. She has a very nice shine. It is almost like she has glitter on her skin.”
Furthermore, Pieta received Kalfjes without having to get a vet. “That went smoothly,” says the proud owner. “And she also gives a lot of liters of milk. If you look at her udder, it is beautiful and firm. You prefer. And she has a nice long tail.”
“I walk with her every day so that she gets used to it.”
Although dear is almost as big as Pieta, she can keep her cow in control. “She has a halter that I can hold on to her and it is also a bit of practicing,” Lieve explains. “If she participates in an inspection, we try to walk with her once in advance so that she gets used to it.”
Although dear loves cows a lot, she still eats meat. “I don’t think that’s strange, because if a cow has reached its age, then you also agree with that and then it is good,” she says. “If Pieta is no longer there, I am sad, but I hope they get a calf that will be just as beautiful.”
Fortunately, Pieta will last a lot of years. How much chance she thinks Pieta has to win? “I think one hundred percent!”
