The 1. FC Düren is financially in the bredouille. Now the regional league has submitted an application to open insolvency proceedings.

Since January, players, coaches and staff have been waiting for their salary at the 1. FC Düren. The club has come into a questionable, financial difficulty – and now pulls the consequences. As reported, among other things, the “Aachener Zeitung”, those responsible for the regional league association have registered bankruptcy. Vice President Karsten Schümann submitted the necessary documents to the responsible district court in Aachen.

Schümann said: “We fought until last week and also had promising conversations. There were also slight signals from politics, but that didn’t bring what we had hoped for. We fulfilled our duty within the period.”

What this means for the further season of the 1. FC Düren is not yet clear. “We do not intend to follow the model of Türkspor Dortmund and set the game. We are working on solutions,” said Schümann.

Most recently, the players of the 1st FC Düren had only trained three times a week, but continued to complete the games in the Regionalliga West on weekends. There the team is currently in 9th place in the table and was most recently able to win at the second representation of 1. FC Köln and at the KFC Uerdingen.

It is clear, meanwhile, that at least three monthly salaries can be covered by opening the insolvency proceedings. That would affect January, February and March. The situation from April remains opaque.

How high the club’s liabilities actually are is also not known. Schümann had described it as “enormous” to “Aachener Zeitung” at the beginning of the week. According to information from the leaf, it is said to be a mountain of debt of over five million euros.
