Marc-André Ter Stegen is still injured. In the Nations League against Italy, another goalkeeper between the posts has to be again. The national coach has committed himself.
At the end of last year, both goalkeepers had been awarded missions by Nagelsmann and showed appealing services. Nübel and Baumann had been chosen by Coach to replace the injured tram goalkeeper Marc-André Ter Stegen. The 32-year-old from FC Barcelona had contracted a patella tendon tear shortly after the resignation of Manuel Neuer and his associated appointment as number one. When Stegen is fit again, it is not yet clear.
Now Nagelsmann is relating to Baumann for the time being. So far, the 34-year-old has been in the national team goal twice. At the EM 2024 he was behind Neuer and Ter Stegen number three. In Hoffenheim, where Baumann has been playing since 2014, the former Freiburger is the undisputed regular and captain of the team.
With Baumann in the goal, the DFB team will first compete against Italy in Milan on Thursday evening (from 8:45 p.m. in the live ticker at T-Online). Anyone who reaches the final tournament will decide three days later. Then both teams duel again in Dortmund.
