What is emotional dependence?
“It is a condition in which a person gives control of his life to another, allowing him to massively influence his decisions and emotions. It is like an addiction: the person believes that the other has something that he/he lacks, and from that lack he builds his link,” explains Quiroga.
How did you discover that this problem required special attention?
“For years I worked with patients in substance addiction treatment, but in the office I began to observe a recurring phenomenon: more and more people arrived with a different addiction, addiction to people. I understood that emotional independence is a path of internal reconstruction, because there are parts of the being that have been ceded to the other.”
What are the first steps to get out of emotional dependence?
“The first step is to become aware and ask a fundamental question: ‘Is this really what I want?’ In most cases, the answer is a “no”.
Luciana Quiroga leads her knowledge to different spaces with a clear objective: to generate consciousness. “I see how many people live in anguish, confusion, abuse or emotional abuse and fail to understand what happens to them. Some are ashamed and express phrases such as: ‘I do not understand how I got to this situation’ or ‘I don’t know why I can’t leave if I know what hurts me.'”
Their conferences seek to make visible emotional abuse, show their different forms and provide tools to recover affective autonomy. “My goal is to teach to live well, with peace and mental health. Therefore, I have developed my own method to help build emotional independence and prevent people from continuing to swap their well -being due to harmful relationships.”
Luciana Quiroga invites you to reflect: “If you are not the owner of your emotions, someone else will be for you. The key is to recover power over oneself.”
