What happened?
We try to summarize it briefly. Last night a heavy fire broke out in the De Scheemaeker bicycle store in Waggelwater. A black plume of smoke could be seen from far outside Bruges and the damage was huge. Today, the fire brigade was still busy with the controlled extinguishing of the fire.
Since last night, the Bevrijdingslaan entrance and exit on the Expresweg was closed to the Buffel Bridge and this morning the Rampplan was announced. Asbestos was found in the spread soot particles. The city set a perimeter and journeys had to be limited. In addition, the city came up with a series of measures for local residents and there was a fear of canceling the Match Club Brugge – Charleroi later today.
How does the watering go?
Early in the morning, the fire brigade and civil protection started spraying the paved roads within the perimeter zone. All paved parts were sprayed within the perimeter around 2.30 pm. The city council calls to move within the perimeter via the paved roads. For soft parts such as the roadside it is a much more difficult job to remove all soot particles.
Mayor Dirk De Fauw: “Such work takes time because of the size of the affected zone and the need for a structured and thorough approach. It is important that everything is thoroughly and correctly cleaned. Measurements are still taking place on the site. Measurements were carried out up to 25 kilometers away. ”
Can I still have my car cleaned?
That is still possible until 6 pm. At three locations the fire brigades rinsed vehicles: at the height of the Brico in Sint-Andries, near the prison along the League road and at the height of the roundabout in the Gistelse Steenweg (Kant Varsenare).
What about soot particles in my garden?
The city advises residents to leave the particles and take a photo as evidence for insurance. It is also a good idea to contact fire insurance immediately.
If you still want to remove them yourself, do not damage the particles and wet them to minimize the spread. Collect the wet pieces in a plastic bag and button them before putting them in a second plastic bag. It is recommended to also wear gloves and then thoroughly wash your hands.
What do you do with the collected soot particles? Well, at the same locations where you can rinse your car, you can also release the plastic bags with soot particles.
Do you have a terrace? Then do not use a high -pressure cleaner during cleaning. Rinse your terrace with a soft water jet or carefully pouring a bucket of water over your terrace. It is better not to spend on, pull the water to your garden instead. The water in your gutter or rain barrel is considered infected and you ideally do not use you.
Will Club-Charleroi continue?
Yes, but the planned now fans festival is canceled. The stadium gates open from 5 pm and there is an alternative stadium experience. From 5 pm to 5.30 pm there is a free at Bar Breydel and at the Tapwagen on Supportersplein 1+1 for free. DJ Arthur Lewis and Pat B also perform on Supportersplein.
