“It was a true lover of the weather,” says Sjoerd Looijenga, who has experienced Versteegt at RTV Drenthe for years. “Bad weather didn’t exist for him either. You just had to enjoy it, he said. And in special weather conditions you could always call him for an extra bulletin.”
Looijenga remembers Versteegt as a skilled, nice and warm person. “He had a special bond with presenters. It was really a conversation, a weather talk and not just a weather forecast. After the broadcast, he often stuck for a while, and then inquired how some people were doing. He was really interested in people himself.”
