Is the goalkeeper still returning to the German record champion? In an interview, Alexander Nübel has now talked about the prospects – and also comments on Jonas Urbig.

Alexander Nübel from FC Bayern Munich has been loaned to VfB Stuttgart since 2023, there was a safe backing of his team, making promotion to the German international. National coach Julian Nagelsmann also nominated the 27-year-old again for the upcoming Nation League games against Italy. But there is also a return to Bavaria in the room – even if the situation in Munich has changed again due to an obligation in the past winter break.

Now Nübel has commented on the transfer of goalkeeper talent Jonas Urbig by FC Bayern. In an interview with the “Welt am Sonntag”, the keeper that was currently awarded to VfB Stuttgart said that the transfer had not surprised him.

“It was clear that something would happen because Daniel Peretz had injured himself unhappily,” said Nübel. However, he emphasized that the German record champion could also have committed another goalkeeper: “Bayern could have gained who they want or can access an even higher shelf, it is Bayern.” Instead, it became the Urbig, which was degraded into a replacement goalkeeper at second division club 1. FC Köln – who now even represents the injured stammer goalkeeper Manuel Neuer in the goal of the Munich goal. And Bayern’s planning with Urbig should even go beyond (more about this read here).

Despite the new competition, Nübel has clear goals: he wanted to face the competition: “If I go back and get the option to be number one in Munich, I will definitely fight to be number one too. Clearly. I am also looking forward to it.”

The goalkeeper is aware that the competition in Munich remains high. “In Munich I will always have top competitors, regardless of whether goalkeeper Daniel Peretz or Jonas Urbig is called,” Nübel continued. Despite his loan to Stuttgart, he is still in exchange with Bayern. “With Michael Rechner, the goalkeeper coach, I am in exchange. Sometimes weekly, but sometimes only every two weeks.”

The goal of return to Munich remains even after the latest contract extension of new ones until 2026: “If Manuel should step down at some point, I hope that I can then go to Bayern’s goal. I’m looking forward to this time, but I’m relatively relaxed at the same time.”
