On March 13, 2022, after his football career – which officially ended in January 2021, Huntelaar was hired at Ajax ‘outside the field’. Because of his mental health, he decided to take a step back some time ago. Since then, the former international did not come back in the picture at Ajax.

The club now decides to terminate the contract in the interim. “Klaas Jan is a real Ajax player, it would be nice if he could return to our club at some point. But his health is paramount,” says technical director Alex Kroes. In addition, Kroes Huntelaar thanks for his work at the club. “We wish him strength and success with his further recovery.”

Career

The former striker played at Ajax since the 2017-2018 season and also played for the club in the period from 2006 to 2008. Huntelaar made his debut in Amsterdam on January 15, 2006 in the Ajax-NEC match (1-1) and played a total of 257 official matches, in which he scored 158 goals.

In addition, Huntelaar became the Dutch champion with Ajax in 2019. He also won the KNVB Cup in 2006, 2007 and 2019 and the Johan Cruijff Scale in 2007 and 2019.
