After thirteen years it is over and out for Ilja Gort: the public broadcaster puts him on the street. “A very sensible decision, I think. We all know that drinking wine is very unhealthy. “
Ilja Gort has benefited from free advertising at the public broadcaster for thirteen years. His wines are now for sale in countless supermarkets throughout the country and he is partly due to all the wine programs that could be seen at the NPO over the years. First at Omroep Max, where he left with Bonje, later at AVROTROS.
Ilja is out
TV authority Tina Nijkamp has received the news from AVROTROS. “The AVROTROS pulls the plug from the programs of Ilja Gort and that is very big news, I think, because Ilja Gort has been on display at the NPO with his programs since 2012,” she says in her podcast Tina’s TV UPDATE.
“First at Omroep MAX and since 2017 he has been at the AVROTROS and makes the Gort program there across the border, for which he has been to Italy, France and Spain. In 2018 he also started the Gorts Wijnkwartier program. Those programs are quite popular, so it is not because of the viewing figures. ”
‘Wine is bad’
How many people watched Ilja? “It is broadcast on NPO 2 and it attracts around 300 or 400 thousand viewers at least. That is really reasonable for NPO 2, so it is not the viewing figures. ”
Where then? “I have said before that it is of course strange that the NPO promotes drinking wine, because we all know how harmful that is to health and if you as a NPO have an exemplary function, it cannot be that your wine will promote drinks.”
‘Just like smoking’
Tina always thought that was strange. “The fact that Ilja Gort has been given so many programs at the NPO in recent years, because the world has of course changed a lot and the dangers of alcohol are increasingly in the news. Just as it used to come to light with smoking. “
There is one more season of Gort across the border. “It will be broadcast soon and then the end is exercise.”
End of exercise?
Is Ilja’s career ending with that? “I honestly think so. It is possible that he could, for example, make a series about France or wines with a Videoland, because they want to go on the NPO side with more serious documentaries, as now with Danny Ghosen and Thomas Erdbrink. ”
“Perhaps he will be shown there or another streamer, but he will be finally out of the NPO. A very sensible decision, I think, from Avrotros. At a certain point it is also time to do something else again, “she says. “In any case, he didn’t get poorer from all that free promotion for wine drinking on NPO 2.”
