The King and the State Secretary visited family business Jansen as an example of a future -proof company. The bell pepper grower uses innovative methods to minimize the use of fossil energy, such as the use of geothermal heat.

The peppers are exported to supermarkets in Europe, Japan, Canada and the United States. Despite the sustainable measures, the products are no more expensive than those of the competition. “You can say in the short term that you are a thief of your own wallet, but if we all want to get rid of the gas together, this is the future,” says Ron Jansen.

In addition to geothermal heat, the company also uses solar energy, with two thousand solar panels on the roof, and uses organic fighters. Jansen showed the king a jar of ladybugs fighting lice. “Such a jar costs 150 euros, so carefully,” he warned with a wink.

During the visit there was also a special role for the daughters of Ron. Because of course the king was not allowed to leave empty -handed. And so Quinty and Jasmijn were allowed to hand over a basket with peppers. They were only red and yellow, but according to the sisters they taste just as tasty.
