In the run -up to their departure to the Netherlands, the nurses had to deliver different papers to Yomema and Avans+. Including a birth certificate, unmarried statement and other documents. The researcher of the IND finds that Avans+ without it needing personal data from the Indonesian students and thus acting in violation of the General Data Protection Regulation (AVG).
“Finally, two students stated that they were told by Yomema that they were not allowed to get pregnant in the Netherlands,” the report says. One of them has asked Avans+on arrival in the Netherlands. “An Avans+ employee then answered that it is better not to get pregnant.” A press officer from Avans+ says that they cannot respond to specific allegations in the report.
The researcher of the IND is also critical about the level of the study. Several students stated that they had two days (16 hours) lectures, two days of internships and worked for two days. So what makes a six -day working week. The number of hours that the students worked and internships was therefore more than according to the law.
“It was too much for us. We discussed that and then it was adapted to one day of lessons,” says one of the students. Not much was left of that one day of lessons. “The school is from 9 a.m. to 12 a.m. and then in the afternoon self -study,” said a student. There are no legal guidelines for teaching time for higher education. The researcher of the IND writes about this: “Compared to another HBO nursing course, it is striking that three hours of contact time a week is very little.”
In addition to one day at school, the students did an internship for two days and they also worked at the same institution two days a week and did the same work. “Avans+ or Yomema did not tell what the difference is between internship and work. So when I was here, I noticed that internship and work is the same. I think that, but also others from my group. We have to take responsibility during work, but on the internship days I also have responsibility and I cannot make the learning objectives and assignments because it is too busy,” said a student opposite.
