The Swedish biathlon relay experienced a competition on Sunday in Nove Mesto in Czech to forget. Jesper Nelin alone had to complete four penalty rounds and was then frustrated.

“I’m just destroyed,” Jesper Nelin told the Swedish TV station “SVT”. “I’ve never shot that bad,” said the 32-year-old.

Nelin had to turn a total of four times into the penalty in the biathlon relay in Nove Mesto. Martin Ponsiluoma and Viktor Brandt got it once. Only Sebastian Samuelsson was able to prevent an extra loop.

“I think we spoke too little about the wind and its effects, there was a damn talk about it, we have development potential,” Ponsiluoma practiced self -criticism in the preparation of the racing at “SVT”.

The Swedish quartet ultimately ended up in a disappointing seventh place. The gap to the victorious French (0 penalty rounds) was 4: 42.70 minutes. Norway (1 penalty round) and Ukraine (0 penalty rounds) completed the podium in Nove Mesto.

German biathlon quartet misses podium in Nove Mesto

The German biathletes had to be satisfied with fourth place behind it. David Zobel, Philipp Nawrath, Johannes Kühn and Philipp Horn collected four penalty rounds. Ultimately, around twelve seconds were therefore missing the podium.

“The wind was already the main reason, but four mistakes must not happen,” Zobel summed up afterwards in the “ARD”: “The athletes next to me could do it.

At the end of the season, the Biathlon World Cup still stops in the Slovenian Pokljuka (March 13th to 16th) and in Oslo in Norwegian (March 21st to 23rd).
