Bruno Mars tribute band Treasure won the popular television program The Tribute: Battle of the Bands on Saturday evening. That means that the band can perform in the Ziggo Dome in April. Lead singer Steven Smits from Eindhoven is happy that he and the other seven band members can finally shout it from the rooftops. “We have had to keep it secret since December, because then the final was already taken. This weekend we all experienced it again.”
Last Saturday was the final of The Tribute. In this program, tribute bands compete against each other for a podium place at the Concert The Tribute – Live in Concert in the Ziggo Dome. It was announced on Saturday that the band Treasure ran away with the win. “It’s a madhouse though. It’s great, super fun,” says singer Steven.
The band members watched the final on Saturday. “We are really surprised in a room with all our people around us. There was a big screen to watch the final and banners from Treasure. As a gift there were those big tour cases with our logo on it.”
“With the right one
According to Steven, the band went pretty fast. “We have all been in the music for a while, but we all only started in March, so we are just a year together,” he says. “With the right one drive And you can get the right communication with each other very far. And with great pleasure of course. “
At Steven himself, music was introduced with the spoon. “My father was a professional musician as a guitarist. My mother is a singer, my brother drummer and the rest of the family is also all in the music, even grandpa and grandma. I grew up with it. And since Bruno Mars has come into the picture, I have been a fan of him. But I have only started focusing on it as a singer in recent years.”
Steven and the other band members are really looking forward to the performance on 17, 18 and 19 April in the Ziggo Dome. “We were told that everything is sold out immediately,” he says enthusiastically. Furthermore, the band wants to focus on their club tour and theater tour and writing its own music in the coming period. “In the styles of Bruno Mars. So it’s really about R&B, Soul, Funk and pop music mixed.”
“Most of us were born in the Netherlands, but we are very proud of our roots.”
In the end it is the biggest dream of the band to tour. “Preferably through Asia. We are all of Moluccan-Indonesian descent. Most of us are born in the Netherlands, but we are very proud of our roots. We would like to show that we have taken the musicality, but that we can also bring it back.”
And whether Steven also dreams that the only real Bruno Mars makes contact with the tribute band? “I talked about it with people. It would be crazy if he ever responded, but it is not that we strive for it. We just want to honor his name.”
