For Romed Baumann, the departure in Norway did not run as desired. He was then asked about his run – and promptly asked himself.
It was not Romed Baumann’s departure Saturday. The German ended up in Norway in 36th and was over two seconds behind the leading Franjo van Allmen. In the ARD interview, the German then said that he was “not physically up to date”.
In order to qualify for the World Cup final, Baumann has to end up in the top 25 in the Discipline World Cup. At the moment, the 39-year-old is located in the 24th place in the departure ranking and explained: “As it looks, it will not be any points today. I think that it does not work out.” Baumann apparently assumes not to be part of the World Cup final.
At the microphone, the DSV driver already noticed that he was not in the best of atmosphere. ARD reporter Thomas Kattenbeck on site then spoke the bitter outcome for the German Ski Association (DSV) with regard to Baumann’s possibly missed World Cup final and the many injuries to German athletes.
He asked with a slight laugh: “What’s going on?” Baumann then countered Ernst: “I don’t know what to laugh about.” And the ARD reporter explained directly: “I don’t laugh.”
Then Baumann said calmly: “Of course it is bitter. The big goal was to be part of the final and unfortunately we did not succeed. Many injuries have not exactly good for the season and the team.”
Jacob Schramm fell on the famous streak in January and suffered cruciate ligament tears in both knees. Alexander Schmid also tore the cruciate ligament in December. Simon Jocher also had to undergo surgery on the intervertebral disc and Andreas Sander lacks the team due to a cell disease that he made public last October.
