With the Super Bowl, the supporting program is traditionally almost more important than the game. Now FIFA is also planning a similar spectacle.
The World Cup final in 2026 is boosting the World Cup final in the USA with a half-time show for the pop culture spectacle. FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced on Wednesday on Instagram: “This will be a historical moment for the World Cup-and a show that is worthy of the world’s largest sporting event.” The Super Bowl in the NFL (National Football League) serves as a model.
The Metlife Stadium of the NFL teams New York Giants and New York Jets is to become the stage for music megastars on July 19, 2026. At the Super Bowl, the US rapper Kendrick Lamar recently enthusiastically, legendary shows played Prince, Michael Jackson, Katy Perry or Lady Gaga over the decades. The USA organizes the World Cup tournament together with Canada and Mexico.
Infantino did not yet comment on the line-up in his post, and the probably essential extension of the half-time break from 15 to 25 or more minutes remained open. At the big football final of the NFL, an elaborate stage design with special effects is always staged on the field, the game is interrupted for up to 30 minutes.
FIFA can be advised on the contingent and implementation of the ColdPlay show. The British pop rock band is also said to be part of a “takeover” of New York Times Square on the final weekend.
