The German cross-country skiers must continue to wait for their first medal at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Trondheim. The podium for Katharina Hennig and Laura Gimmler was also far in the team sprint in classical technology.

The German duo had to be satisfied with sixth place on Wednesday (05.03.2025). After a solid start, Hennig/Gimmler could no longer follow the high pace after half of the race and had 51.8 seconds behind Jonna Sundling and Maja Dahlqvist, who celebrated the next gold for the Swedishes. Silver and bronze went to the USA and Switzerland.

Hennig falls in the prologue

The Olympic champion in the team sprint together with a sprint specialist in top shape-the pairing Hennig/Gimmler spoke hope for a top result in advance. A hair would have ended in qualification after Hennig had fallen over the 1.4 kilometers. Place of twelve should still be enough for the final.

There, Hennig was able to keep up well on the first of a total of six rounds and handed over to Gimmler as sixth with six seconds. The 31-year-old had to struggle with a cold at the beginning of the title fights, but presented himself in a good shape and was able to hold her position. At the top, however, a group of five had already led by Sweden.

Podest early out of reach

Hennig struggled, but could not close the gap. On the contrary: after 3.5 kilometers, the gap to the podium had grown to 13 seconds. Meanwhile, Sundling had worked out a lead at half -time and thus laid the foundation stone for the gold medal. For the German duo, the last rounds were only fifth. Ultimately, Gimmler was missing from Italy for 0.3 seconds despite a strong final track.
