In the national team, Thomas Müller worked with Julian Nagelsmann. Now he reveals how he stood by the national coach.
Julian Nagelsmann had a difficult start as a national coach, the German national team fought with a form crisis in front of the home European Championship. Thomas Müller now spoke about his doubts about the new national coach at the time: “It is really embarrassing. It feels like a laughing number and it is somehow that way,” said FC Bayern’s veteran in his Amazon Prime documentation “one like none”.
Müller referred to the 0: 2 defeat of the DFB team against Austria in November 2023. “I said from the start that I basically keep Julian Nagelsmann from his coaching profile as not ideal for us as a national coach,” Küller imitated.
As part of his documentary, Müller was accompanied with a camera. The 35-year-old took up his thoughts after the second defeat in the fourth game under Nagelsmann-and let his thoughts run wild. The first two duels remained undefeated: 3-1 against the USA and 2-2 against Mexico before a 2: 3 against Turkey followed.
In the test games, and thus also preparing for the European Championship in their own country, Germany celebrated a 2-0 win against France and a 2-1 win over the Netherlands. Nagelsmann sparked euphoria in his own country shortly before the tournament start.
In the quarter -finals, however, the later winner Spain ended (0: 1). Despite little time, Müller drew a positive balance. “The trainer not only gave us well, but also set us. The roles were clearly distributed,” he said in the documentation. After the home European Championship, Müller resigned from the German national team.
