With a demonstration of the strength, the THW Kiel has solved the direct ticket for the round of the last eight in the European League. The German handball record champion made Bundesliga leaders MT Melsungen on Tuesday with 35:24 (20:13).
Due to the victory in the last main round game, the “zebras” secured the victory in group 3 from Melsungen. As the second, the MT now has to go to the play-offs (25.3. And 1.4.) And meets VfL Gummersbach, who lost the relay finale against Flensburg in Group 4.
Quarter -finals on April 22nd and 29th
Just like the SG, the THW can take a longer breather. The quarter -final games will only be played on April 22nd and 29th. THW captain Duvnjak celebrates comeback
Kiel offered an almost perfect game against replacement weakened Melsungers. The hosts marked 20 goals in the first half and laid the foundation for the sovereign victory. The nine -time goal scorer Elias Ellefsen á Skipagøtu was the best thrower of the Kiel. Nikolaj Enderleit was successful five times for Melsungen.

And the THW fans still had a reason for cheering: Captain Domagoj Duvnjak gave his comeback on the record after a stubborn calf injury. The Croatian had failed since the World Cup final in early February.
Melsungens mensing worn by the field
On the other hand, Melsungen shocked the early foot injury of a key player. Without an opposing influence, the Dane Aaron Mensing sagged to the ground in the 13th minute and had to be carried out of the field by his teammate Rogerio Moraes.
Melsungen found no remedy against strong Kielers without some top performers. The team of coach Filip Jicha was celebrated with standing ovation long before the final siren.
