Martens was brought before the investigating judge for the first time on 7 June 2024. He was discredited in September 2023 after it turned out that he had borrowed large sums of money from numerous friendly entrepreneurs that he could not repay. A criminal investigation was then opened, but the former minister was then released under conditions, including no criminal offenses, the obligation to be guided psychologically and to be guided for his financial problems.
