The court has not yet determined a punishment for 54-year-old Daniël L., the stubborn stalker of the (former) mayor and officials of the municipality of Hoogeveen. The judges want more information from the experts about their advice what should be done with L..
At the beginning of February, the Public Prosecution Service (OM) TBS demanded forced nursing and a year in prison against L. de Man has been living with the municipality for thirteen years. Since then he has been difficult for employees, but also the (former) mayor have to suffer. For the umpteenth time, L. was on trial for attacks, threat and insult. The fight once started on his benefit. According to L., the municipality does not meet agreements made therein.
In the meantime, L. also focuses his arrows at the King’s Commissioner in Drenthe, Jetta Klijnsma. She also received insults via emails. Stalken was so intense that former mayor Karel Loohuis and officials even walked around with an emergency button temporarily. According to experts, L. is struggling with various disorders that play a role in his way of expressing. According to them, the man is attributable to a reduced extent.
The advice of the experts vary. On the one hand, they see a solution in TBS with compulsory treatment. On the other hand, there is also talk of a ‘bare punishment’ (prison sentence). The judges want to hear the experts at the next session, which still has to be scheduled. Because L. is in custody, this must be done within three months.
