From today, a large group of primary schools can apply for a subsidy for financial education. As a result, children learn to deal with money at a young age. The Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment makes 11.2 million euros available this year.

State Secretary Jurgen Nobel: “Young learned was done old. This also applies to money matters. If children learn at a young age how to handle money, they benefit from it for a lifetime. This way lessons about money can help prevent debts. That is why it is good to open this subsidy for primary schools. “

Defined group of schools

Because many primary schools are being overrogged and struggling with a lack of staff, it was decided to make the subsidy available for a defined group.

This period only eligible primary schools with an educational arrears score above the threshold value. At those schools there are many students with a greater chance of an educational delay.

Lessons and meetings

Schools can, for example, use the subsidy to accept or release employees for lessons about money. Or to support parents and carers in the financial education of children, for example by organizing meetings about this.

In recent years, a subsidy was also available for financial education in high school and in MBO.
