For his work on “Dune: Part Two”, he was able to collect his third Golden Academy Trophy. But who is Nefzer?
At this year’s Oscar ceremony on March 2 in Los Angeles, Gerd Nefzer was also able to go out as the winner. Together with his colleagues Paul Lambert, Stephen James and Rhys Salcombe, he was awarded an award for the visual effects in “Dune: Part Two”. But who is the man who started his speech in German?
The right one for the special effects
The 59-year-old has not been refined with an Oscar for the first time-it is already his third Academy Award. The Special Effects professional was only able to get the previous prices in 2018 by his participation in the visual effects in “Blade Runner 2049” and then in 2022 for the first “Dune” part.
The man from Schwäbisch Hall presented himself accordingly confidently on the 2025 Oscar stage. He started his speech with the words “Thank you, that’s great”.
To his beginnings
Gerd Nefzer was born on July 5, 1965 as Gerd Feuchter. At first he studied agricultural technology and worked as a farmer.
His move to the film industry came about by entering the company of his father -in -law – Nefzer Special Effects. In the 80s, this had specialized in lending film cars and weapons. With its jam into the company, the special effects area and after 89 also an expansion in Potsdam was built up.
In 2018, Gerd Nefzer then became a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

His visual effects can be seen in “Anatomy” (2000), “Equilibrium” (2002), “The Chronicles of Narnia” (2008), “Inglourious Basterds” (2009), “Grand Budapest Hotel” (2014) and “John Wick: Chapter 4” (2023).
