The new Vice President Silke Sinning wants to work on the scandals of the German Football Association (DFB) in recent years.

“It’s important to come to terms with the past. You owe it to all people at the grassroots level,” said Sinning on “Deutschlandfunk”.

Many mistakes had been made. “You can’t change them anymore, but you can learn from the mistakes,” said the doctor of sports science: “And I also think it’s important for a new beginning that you make it clear that you made mistakes that happened in the past we recognized it, and we hope that these mistakes won’t happen to us again.”

In the election on Friday, Sinning prevailed against the controversial long-term official Rainer Koch. She belonged to the team of defeated presidential candidate Peter Peters and had only decided in the morning to compete even if Peters lost. She was “overwhelmed” by the voting result of 163:68 votes.

“First of all I have to find my place myself, I have to talk to everyone involved there,” explained Sinning: “Everyone approached me very openly. I think it will be a good working relationship.”
