Some strands of hair from Kurt Cobain come under the hammer – as well as a nasty collector’s item.
An upcoming auction of Potter & Potter auctions offers rare collector’s pieces from the skirt scene, including strands of hair from Kurt Cobain and an underpants from GG allin allegedly signed with blood. The auction entitled “Punks, Monsters, Smut & Madmen: A CounterCultural Cross-Section” will take place next Friday, March 7, 2025.
Among the objects offered are original works by Matt Groening, the creator of the Simpsons, and the graffiti artist Keith Haring, an unused ticket for a sex pistol concert from 1978, a signed CD by the “Church of Satan” founder Anton Lavey, relics of the legendary CBGB club and a pool table, which once belonged.
That could be worth the pieces
The bid for a collective box with two strands of hair from Kurt Cobain is currently over $ 300 (the equivalent of around 288 euros). These strands were originally collected by the hairdresser Tessa Osbourne, which Cobain had given a haircut during the UK tour of Nirvana in 1989. In 2021, six strands of hair from Cobain were auctioned for $ 14,145 (13,620 euros). Both auctions were offered by Nicole Dapolo, a close friend of Cobain, who received the hair after his tragic death of Osbourne.
The offered underwear from GG Allin is provided with its signature in blood and is on the back the inscription: “Suck My Ass It Smells” (“Lick my ass, he stinks”). The current bid for the obscene collector’s item is $ 425 (409 euros).
The interest in Kurt Cobain is unbroken
While GG Allin’s slip is rather special, interest in Kurt Cobain’s strands of hair should be unbroken. In the past few years, several personal objects of the musician-including a pack of American Spirite cigarettes, have been auctioned from the “Smells Like Teen Spirit” music video, the Cardigan, which he wore at the “MTV Unplugged” show, a self-drawn self-portrait and a smashed guitar that signed by the three nirvana members became.
