It is probably the most controversial construction project of the Winter Olympics in the coming year: the bobsleigh and toboggan run in Cortina d’Ampezzo. A now 120 million expensive project. At first it was not clear whether Italy could set a train itself. It has already been checked which alternative systems would possibly be available. Then there was a corresponding decision.
But: everything takes longer than planned. To make matters worse, reports have now circulated that unknown people are said to have prevented the construction.
Cooling tube blocks the ice channel – sabotage or accident?
A cooling pipe blocked the construction site to the ice channel. The organizers speak directly of sabotage. However, pictures of residents of the railway suggest that the pipe could accidentally be hung up over the snow there.
The three-time toboggan runner Felix Loch also sees it like this: “I have the feeling that something was not properly secured there and that something has become self-employed on the residual snow that is located there,” he told Br24sport. “In the end you have to be happy that nothing happened at first.”

Despite everything, those responsible are confident that the ice channel will be completed in good time for the official approval, the so -called homologation: “In the coming weeks we will be able to allow the train, then there are no more problems. We will monitor everything,” says Andrea Varnier, Managing Director of Milan 2026.
200 people are currently working daily in two -shift operation on the ice channel. The earlier the train gets ready, the more test drives can take place there. Felix Loch remains calm: “We experienced it the same way in China. The homologation was only made in the Olympic winter. I see it very relaxed because of this. At the latest in autumn we will drive there.”
