Ski racing driver Felix Rösle surprisingly won the downhill gold at the Junior World Cup since 1988.
The 20-year-old from SC Sonthofen prevailed in the shortened and held races in Tarvisio/Italy in two rounds on Thursday with two hundredths of a second ahead of the Swiss Philipp Kälin. The Austrian Matthias Fernsebner (+0.14) won bronze.
“It was an unusual race in the event of an unreasonable conditions,” said Rösle, who had rushed into the gold lane from third place: “There were two passes, it was warm, rained.”
Rösle is still paying off something for the Super-G on Saturday. “I’m looking forward to it, I really feel like it. The stick is good for me,” he said. In addition, the leaving of the weather had been driven from the Super-G start.
Kaspar Gilgenrainer so far only German Junior World Champion
The only German junior world champion in the departure was Kaspar Gilgenrainer in 1988, who then did not put on a big career afterwards. Thomas Dreßen, later the winner on the Streif in Kitzbühel, finished second in 2014. Sizes such as Kjetil Andre Aamodt (Norway), Beat Feuz or Marco Odermatt (both Switzerland) also cleared the junior title in the departure.
